Library

The central library in Halle an der Saale is a specialised academic library with a total stock of approximately 80,000 items. These cover the main focuses of the collections at Moritzburg Art Museum, Halle an der Saale, with a large inventory of national and international exhibition and auction catalogues. These are complemented by the fields of work taken on by Kulturstiftung Sachsen-Anhalt: conservation and the history of architecture, the church, law and the region.

The main focus of the library at Michaelstein Abbey – Saxony-Anhalt Music Academy and Institute of Performance Practice – is on music literature of the 17th and 18th centuries. The stocks of sheet music, manuscripts and audio documents, totalling some 11,000 items, focuses mainly on performance practice and music theory. In addition to this, the library meets the interdisciplinary needs of Michaelstein Abbey in terms of the history of its art, culture and monastery.

The library at Neuenburg Castle (Freyburg) contains some 30,000 items. Alongside specialist literature on castle research, architecture, the Middle Ages and the history of art and culture, it also holds publications on regional history. The collection is rounded off by an extremely well-stocked library specialising in viticulture and holdings bequeathed by the biologist Dr Friedrich Gollmick and the wine historian Dr Dieter Coburger.
